s[H]elf II
Installation of video works and works on light reactive paper.
12th May - 13th June 1999 La Chambre Blanche, Quebec City, Canada
Made in situ s[H]elf II drew on a painting by Casper David Friedrick, in which a woman with her back to the viewer, looks out of a window to sea. Using light reactive paper a series of self portraits were made without a camera, echoing the Freidrick image and hung within the gallery (where formerly there had been a set of windows).
Other elements of the work included video footage shot at Prawle Point, Devon, of a wrecked cargo boat; its engineered surfaces transformed and disrupted by the action of the sea; positioning it as a bodily metaphor.
